Biography

Dr. Ike Okosun is currently an Associate Professor for the School of Public Health at Georgia State University (GSU). He received his doctorate from The University of Pittsburgh, Graduate School of Public Health and has over 25 years of experience in public health. Okosun is a chronic disease epidemiologist who is an internationally recognized expert in the epidemiology of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. His research in diabetes, hypertension, obesity and insulin resistance syndrome has provided an understanding of the epidemiology of these diseases. His work on the role of abdominal obesity in explaining racial/ethnic variations for cardiovascular diseases has furthered understanding of lipid biology.
