Abstract


Alopecia Areata is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder of the hair follicles with a lifetime incidence of 1-2 %. It affects both women and men equally. the disease most often starts in young adults with children frequently affected .most common on the scalp but sometimes affects the beard eyelashes, eyebrows. A Pattern of hair loss surrounding and head like a band is referred to as an aphesis pattern. Complete loss of hair on the scalp is termed alopecia totalis , while the loss of hair on the entire body. Including eyelashes and eyebrows, is referred to as alopecia universal .as natural changes are present in about 20% of AA patients, proximal nail shedding, longitudinal ridging. An pitting have been observed. Treatment topical and intralesional cortiscostrides are appropriate for patchy diseases. Intralesional triamcinlone acetone 3 to 5 mg/ml can be injected every 4 to 8 weeks . Topical minoxidil 2-5% applied BID. Topical irritants such as anthralin 1% cream and topical immunotherapy such as squaric acid dibutyl ester many be used.
