Abstract


Background: More than 2.5 million people in the U.S. and 40 million worldwide have some form of epilepsy. Epilepsy attack are caused by excessive electrical activity within networks of neurons in the brain. This electrical activity is generated by the flow of charged particles called ions into/ out of the surface of the neurons. Epilepsy can begin at any age. Sometimes the onset of seizures is attributed to injury, infection or hereditary predisposition, but often, there is no known cause or trigger for epilepsy. Undiagnosed and uncontrolled, it may progressively alter normal brain function and create serious social and psychological problems. For these reasons, early diagnosis and treatment are crucial. Objective: To discuss all aspect of epilepsy, giving priority to those areas which have the potential to produce results in harming patient and prevent it before occur. Methods: To diagnose patient condition, we will review patient symptoms and medical history. And discuss the confirmed doctor order of several tests to diagnose epilepsy and determine the cause of by focusing on the following aspect we will guaranty better pathway of epilepsy cure: 1. ameliorating the accuracy of diagnosis, 2. improving treatment, 3. increasing quality of life of the patient, While the evaluation and treatment of patients with seizures or epilepsy is often challenging, modern therapy provides many patients with complete seizure control. After a first seizure, evaluation should focus on excluding an underlying neurologic or medical condition, assessing the relative risk of seizure recurrence and determining whether treatment is indicated. Successful management of patients with recurrent seizures begins with the establishment of an accurate diagnosis of epilepsy syndrome followed by treatment using an appropriate medication in a manner that optimizes efficacy. Results: The therapy is completely control seizures without producing unacceptable medication side effects. Majority of Patients showed achieve complete seizure control should be confirm as successful treatment cases in epilepsy research center, regardless if it was controlled by medications or surgical treatments courses . Conclusions: Quality of patient life improved if epilepsy discovered at early stages, this include proper diagnosed and treated and also prevention, by providing awareness and knowledge for health care provided and patient families.

Mohammad Shaban is currently working in Health point hospital , UAE. He did his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science from Bagdad University. He worked as a Registered Nurse in Many hospitals.
