Exploring the clinical toxicology of intravesical chemotherapy for patients with non-invasive bladder cancer: A population-based analysis of bladder cancer in Taiwan

Abstract


Bladder cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the urinary tract, treatment for superficial non-invasive bladder carcinoma is currently using intravesical chemotherapy and this treatment regimen provides a high local tumor control. However, these therapy drugs usually cause major side effects including urine urgency, urine frequency, hematuria, cystitis and fever. Clinical data of 109 cases with non-invasive bladder cancer were treated and tracked in a teaching hospital in southern Taiwan, between January 2010 and September 2016, with intravesical chemotherapy. 109 cases with non-invasive bladder cancer treated, have 48 cases (44.0%) been going to emergency call emergency medical treatment when between intravesical chemotherapy. Side effects including 18 cases (16.5%) urinary tract infection, 10 cases (9.17%) hematuria, 9 cases (8.26%) urine frequency, 7 cases (6.42%) dizziness and fever. In exploring this, we were evidenced that intravesical chemotherapy for cause of urine tract symptom. The education of nurses about what intravesical chemotherapy side effects information was important.
