Laparoscopic hepatic cyst treatment; Experience in a second level hospital

Abstract
Introduction: Hepatic cysts are classified as parasites and not parasites, also called simple. In 1855, Bristowe reported a first case of non-parasitic cystic disease of the liver and associated with polycystic kidney disease. Also in that same year, Michel in 1855 recorded the first non-parasitic cyst. Simple hepatic cysts have an overall incidence of 5%. Are asymptomatic and are commonly located in the right lobe are usually diagnosed incidentally during routine radiological examinations. Symptomatic cysts are large and are associated with pain, nausea, vomiting, fullness, early gastric, portal hypertension, obstructive jaundice and occasionally thrombosis of the portal vein. Objective: Demonstrate the effectiveness of laparoscopic surgery in their treatment. Material and Methods: We reviewed the cases treated laparoscopically in a period of 3 years. The parameters reviewed included: age, sex, symptoms, radiological studies, complications and recurrence, and a descriptive analysis was carried out. Results: We reviewed 6 patients, 4 women and 2 men, with an average age of 52 years. The most frequent symptoms were pain in the right upper quadrant in 6 patients, and in 2 pain and gastroesophageal reflux 4 palpable mass. The 6 patients underwent laparoscopic unroofing, with an average surgical time of 01:30 hr and an average hospital stay of 2 days. After laparoscopic surgery, there was remission of symptoms in 6 patients, and to date none of our patients has presented recurrence. Conclusions: The laparoscopic technique is safe and effective, requires a short hospital stay and rapid recovery.
Biography
Jose Arturo Vazquez Vazquez is a general surgeon since 1996, then performed minimal surgery studies at the National Institute of Nutrition Salvador Zubiran in Mexico City; Pancreas Surgery at the University of Ulm Germany; is a Master in Higher Education, Instructor in clinical simulation by the Center Medical Simulation of the University of Harvard; candidate for a Doctorate in Education from the University of Baja California Mexico. Has presented more than 30 research papers in different forums, about surgery, medical education and clinical simulation. Active member of the Mexican Association of General Surgery; Assigned to the General Surgery service in ISSSTE and Beneficencia Espanola Hospitals; and Coordinates the Undergraduate Medicine program in the IEST Anahuac University in Tampico Mexico.
