Abstract

One of the most common treatments for cardiovascular diseases is coronary angioplasty. Most of the patients experience the anxiety related to angioplasty which is estimated to be about 24.0% to 72.0%. Due to the short period of hospitalization of such patients, less attention has been made to their education, therefore, this study has been carried out with the aim to investigate the effect of multi-media education on the level of anxiety and uncertainty of patients undergoing PCI procedure in Shiraz-Iran. This is a quasi-experimental study carried out on 90 patients under Angioplasty in two control and intervention groups at Shiraz Kosar Hospital. The control and intervention groups received written education (usual education) and multimedia education respectively. Anxiety and Uncertainty were evaluated at three periods of before intervention, immediately after intervention and two weeks after Angioplasty using DASS Anxiety-21 and Mishel's Uncertainty tools. There was a significant difference in mean of Anxiety and Uncertainty between intervention and control groups (P<0.05). Also, the result of the analysis showed a significant difference in the mean of anxiety and uncertainty before the intervention, immediately after intervention and two weeks later (P<0.05). Multi-media education causes the reduction of Anxiety and Uncertainty among patients and since most of the patients were illiterate, its use is easier and more accessible.
