Abstract

32 year old man reported with gross swelling of the left ear lobule following ear piercing. The swelling measured 4.8*3.9cms. Excision of the growth followed by reconstruction with full thickness skin graft was done. The excised specimen was found to be keleoid on histopathological examination. Patient reported on 5th day with signs of graft failure. Dressing was done, followed ny injection of PRP & 2%hyaluronic acid to promote healing. Regular follow up and dressing was done. Patient was injected steroid injection at the recipient site at monthly intervals. Satisfactory healing was observed for auricular defect reconstruction with full thickness graft from the lateral thigh. PRP & Hyaluronic acid enhanced the healing in the post operative phase. Patient was followed up for upto 16 months with no signs of recurrence. Conclusion: Surgical excision of keleoid and reconstruction with full thickness graft followed by administration of PRP & Hyaluronic acid with regular steroid injection showed no recurrence and graft failure with satisfactory healing. The study also explores the possibility of necessity of PRP &Hyaluronic acid for routine cosmetic surgeries involving graft placement in the maxillofacial region.
