Abstract

Introduction: In Palembang, south Sumatra, Indonesia, the prevalence rate of breast cancer is 0,2‰. Most of the breast cancer cases at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital is stadium IIIB cancer. The therapy for stadium IIIB breast cancer is neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The effects of FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy on immune markers specially total lymphocyte count remain largely unknown. Objectives: To evaluate the effects of FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy on total lymphocyte count of breast cancer patients. Materials and Methods: An observational analytical study with open clinical trial to evaluate the effects of FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy on total lymphocyte count of stadium IIIB breast cancer patients. By consecutive random sampling, we got 24 patients and the data was analyzed with paired T test. Results: The age characteristic distribution of the sample is 45.58 ± 10.29 years old. The analysis of the leucocyte before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy shows a significant decreasing of leucocyte (p=0.004). Total lymphocyte count significantly decrease too (p=0.006). But the proportion of lymphocyte to leucocyte significantly increase (p=0,004). Discussion: This study was conducted due to the differences of previous research results. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect the FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy and it shows that the total lymphocyte count significantly decline without correlation to age, family history of breast cancer and hormonal contraceptive. Conclusions: The total lymphocyte count after FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy significantly decrease.
