Abstract


Previous research shows the significance of interaction with instructors in informal settings as a positive contributor to the student’s intellectual and personal growth.Whether your students are traditional, non-traditional,campus based, or blended online, interaction with the instructor outside the classroom contributes to their academic success. Study hall provides an opportunity for reflection, learner directed activities,development of interpersonal skills and mentoring This presentation will discuss “study hall” as a method to enhance the pedagogy of engagement Additionally, the presentation will offer examples of the criteria for “study hall” Finally, the presentation will provide student feedback of piloting “study hall” in the Ohio University Southern School of Nursing Program.

Biography


Elizabeth Delaney is an Associate Professor for Ohio University Southern in Ironton, Ohio. She holds a master’s degree in nursing and is board certified as a family nurse practitioner in the state of Kentucky. She has over 30 years expereince as a registered nurse. She has over ten years experience as a professor in higher education in undergradute nursing. Her research interest, presentations and publications are in the field of brain based learning strategies.
