Treatment of pediatric cancer by integrated Western and traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract


Childhood cancer has become the second leading cause of death in developed countries. According to the Children’s Cancer Foundation of Taiwan, about one in every 10,000 children under the age of 18 has cancer. According to statistics from Europe and Germany, leukemia mainly occurs in acute leukemia, of which acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) accounts for the largest proportion (26.8% of all childhood malignant tumors), and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) accounts for 4.7%. Chronic myeloid leukemia is rare (0.4%). In Taiwan, according to the statistics of the Children’s Cancer Foundation of the Republic of China for many years, the number of new cases of cancer per year is about 550. The most common childhood cancer is 37% leukemia, 21% brain tumor and 10% lymphoma. In the past ten years, we have used Integrated Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat childhood cancer and achieved good results, and published several papers.
