The Misuse of the Annual Pap smears Alone for Cervical Cancer Screening

This manuscript will continue support ACOG recommendations by adding to research advocating for the current guidelines be used universally. Currently, the annual pap smear is being misused because it is being performed annually in office by providers. A pre posttest quasi experimental design was done to provide education to patients about clinical guideline upThe site location for the research was conducted in Northeast Florida in a private urban gynecology office n=20; participants were chosen from 9/2016 to 11/2016 by convince sampling. The concern is pelvic examinations with cervical cancer screening are being performed despite the guidelines suggesting limited evidence on the need for performing pap smears prior to age 21; regardless of sexual risk factors unless there is a history of HIV infection (Sreenivas, Nurul Ameen, & Menon, 20161).
