Total Knee Replacement in the Presence of Proximal Tibial Non- Union: A Report of Two Cases

Total Knee Replacement in the Presence of Proximal Tibial Non- Union: A Report of Two Cases

A fracture of the proximal third of the tibia may predispose the knee to the development of posttraumatic arthritis. Malunion, intra-articular chondro-osseous defects, limb malalignment, and poor surrounding soft tissues may in turn compromise the outcome of total knee arthroplasty. There is little information in the literature regarding the outcome of total knee arthroplasty following open reduction and internal fixation of fractures of the proximal third tibia. The aim of our study was to evaluate the results of total knee arthroplasty in two elderly patients with a previous nonunion fracture of the proximal third tibia.
