Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Elucidation of Mixed Ligand Cu(II) Complexes as Artificial Metallonucleases

Bipyridines (L1–L7) derived from reaction between chalcones and pyridinium salt have been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H–NMR and 13C–NMR techniques. The synthesized ligands have been screened for their antibacterial and DNA binding activities. Subsequently their complexes have been synthesized with CuCl2•2H2O and ofloxacin and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic moment measurement, thermal analysis (TG), IR, LC–MS and electronic spectra.
