Biography

Shalu Gupta, M.D. is a skilled and compassionate board-certified ophthalmologist and a refractive surgeon who treats many eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic retinopathy. She also treats cosmetic and functional disorders of the eyelids and performs procedures such as blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.

Vitreous Substitutes in Vitreoretinal Surgeries

The vitreous is an inert, transparent, colorless, hydrophilic gelatinous structure that fills the space between the lens and the retina. It maintains the intra ocular pressure and is important in maintaining transparency of the media for maximum photon transmission to the retina. With advancing age the vitreous undergoes liquefaction resulting in its transformation from a formed gel form to fluid form.
