Shongkour Roy was born in Bangladesh. He has completed MS and BSc in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Roy worked as a Senior Research Officer in the Center for Equity and Health Systems and also Nutrition and Food Security at the icddr,b. Since 2015, he has been with the Population Council Bangladesh and works with MNCH, Demography, HIV/AIDS, Reproductive Health, and Ending Eclampsia.

In Bangladesh pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (PE/E) is the second leading cause of maternal death and accounts for 24% death. The correct knowledge of primary health care providers (PHCs), who are the first contact point for antenatal care (ANC) clients, and reliable availability of drugs and equipment are important to prevent, detect and manage PE/E.
