Biography

Trang Hickman received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston and completed her Master’s in Public Health at Yale School of Public Health. She has conducted research in a variety of areas including neuroscience, water quality, and cancer epidemiology. Currently, she manages our myriad of Health Information Technology research projects that take place at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and across the United States with our collaborators. When she has the opportunity, Trang loves to travel and try to learn the languages of the places she visits.

A tool for addressing social determinants of health to improve care for vulnerable populations

Social and economic factors have been shown to have the largest impact on an individual’s health as well as the long-term health of communities. As a Medicaid Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Partners HealthCare System (PHS) developed and implemented a questionnaire at primary care sites across the system to learn how these social determinants of health (SDoH) influence our patients’ health and inform strategies to mitigate those risk factors.
