Abstract

Vesicular systems can be modified and give new drug delivery pathways with a little change in its structure, thus becoming more and more promising for research. The flexibility offered by proniosomes and niosomes as a drug delivery system is inspiring, the structural characteristics such as composition, fluidity and size can easily be architectured, thus providing a wide range of application in the pharmaceutical industry. Proniosomes provide potential benefits over other vesicular systems due to their greater physical and chemical stability and are potentially scalable for commercial viability. Following a brief introduction to the proniosomes and niosomes, this manuscript highlights key advantages and applications associated with proniosomes, discusses its composition, methods of preparation, characterizations and factors affecting physicochemical properties of hydrated niosomes.
