An assessment of the risk of sedentary working pattern suffering from metabolic syndrome

Abstract
This study used annual health examination database to analyze the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in taxi drivers and the subjects of different occupations in Taiwan. After female taxi drivers were excluded, this study enrolled a total of 492 male taxi drivers (55.74±8.19). This study used the member annual health examination database of a certain largescale health examination in stitution in Taiwan in 2015, and selected a total of 8,117 subjects of different occupations to perform the comparison and statistical analysis. The research results showed that the proportion of taxi drivers suffering from MetS was significantly higher than that of the subjects of various occupations (P=0.036) receiving the health examination. The three important findings in this study are as follows: 1) the prevalence of MetS increased with the increase in age; the prevalence in taxi drivers at the age of 55 to 65 significantly increased and was significantly higher than that of subjects of other occupations; 2) the comparison between taxi drivers in all age groups and the subjects of various occupations in the health examination database showed that the prevalence of MetS in taxi drivers in all age groups were all significantly higher; the mean of 4 indicators, WC, BP, TG, HDL-C, was all significantly higher than that of subjects of various occupations (P<0.001). 3). However, this study found that in the health examination database, the fasting glucose level (FG) of the subjects of various occupations was significantly higher than that of taxi drivers.

Ming-Shu Chen has been graduated from Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Yuan-Ze University as PhD and graduated from Deptartment of Institute of Hospital and Health Care Administration, National Yang-Ming University as Master. His specialties includes Health Management, Medical Quality and Chronic Disease Aanlysis in Elderly. Later on, he obtained his Post-graduation from University with subjects Medical technologist and then started working at the Health Management Center, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Administration, OIT where he has continued his research. Presently he has been working at the at the New Taipei City, Taiwan.
