Effectiveness of video assisted teaching programme regarding knowledge and practices on neonatal resuscitation among BSc nursing students at selected nursing colleges, Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh

Abstract
Resuscitation to be successful, it requires the meticulous understanding by the health-care personnel working in the labour room, maternity and newborn units to have adequate skills for prompt neonatal resuscitation. Pre-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of Video-Assisted Teaching Programme regarding Neonatal Resuscitation among BSc nursing students. 100 BSc Nursing students were selected from selected nursing colleges, by Purposive sampling technique. The self-report tool developed into 3sections regarding demographic characteristics, items on knowledge and practice regarding Neonatal Resuscitation among B.Sc. Nursing students. Video-Assisted Teaching Programme was based on Neonatal resuscitation programme. A tool was validated and reliability checked. A pretest was conducted and implemented video assisted teaching programme after 15 days posttest was conducted. In the pre-test, 100% had inadequate knowledge and 84% had moderate practice. In post-test knowledge and practice scores improved to 45% and 92%. There was the significant difference between pretest and post-test scores of practices indicating that Video Assisted Teaching Programme was very effective in imparting practices. There was no significant association between post-test scores of knowledge and practices with selected demographic variables. Overall our findings are consistent with the previous studies that have documented knowledge and practices of Neonatal Resuscitation among Nursing Students. The study showed results with the similar study findings, quasi-experimental study to assess the Outcome of Clinical Simulation on Neonatal Resuscitation among BSc Nursing Students at a selected Nursing Institution. The results revealed that 44 (52%) had inadequate knowledge. Statistically, the significant difference was found in post-test knowledge. The findings showed that new technologies in teaching improve the knowledge and practice among Nursing Students..

Gomathi S has completed MSc in child health nursing and having 15 years of teaching experience. Presently she is pursuing Doctorate in hospital administration and also working as Associate professor at reputed institution at Andhra Pradesh, India. She has guided research projects of more than 50 studies and published 10 articles in various journals, peer reviewer in reputed journals.
