Abstract
The probable maximum precipitation (PMP) and probable maximum flood (PMF) are the maximum rainfall and runoff respectively, which are possible to occur in a given time and given place. For the estimation of PMP, one use two different methods, the synoptic and the statistical method. The first one is based on maximizing of rainfall, humidity and other weather parameter, whereas the second method is based on analyzing the observed time series of annual maximum precipitation. In this study, the time series of PMP 24 hours are investigated in Shiraz synoptic weather station, South of Iran, using Hershfield’s statistical method and also the effects of period of the year are described. The best relationship between PMP and the number of years is suggested.
