Preventative cosmetic treatment to control hyperpigmentation and ROS

Abstract


Statement of the Problem: The sun exposure and air-pollution (particulate matter) triggers hyperpigmentation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) within the skin which can aid melanoma, particularly in old age. Sunscreens cannot provide in-depth protection to the skin against external stimuli. Currently, cost effective and efficacious preventative measures are not fully established. Methodology & Theoretical Orientation: We propose simple preventative measures such as topical cosmetics to control melanoma by controlling tyrosinase activity and ROS. In Intraceuticals’s three step skin-care regimes natural actives are infused into dermal layers using low viscosity serum followed by hydrogels which act on epidermis and finally cream which seal the skin against external stimuli such as pollution particulates and UV light. Further application of sunscreen can add an extra protection to the skin. We selected naturally sourced actives based on clinical data to control tyrosinase activity and ROS. We have also identified potential antioxidants such as spin traps that can effectively prevent ROS. Conclusion & Significance: Initial tests are conducted in a few countries (USA, Australia and China) and results are encouraging so far. Thus, the three step protection of the skin from inside out using cosmetics containing naturally sourced actives can create a new preventative regime for melanoma.
