Abstract

The air pollution effected the degradation of structural materials due to corrosion of metals and deterioration of paints. In the Czech Republic the SO2 pollution decreased during two decades (1195-2005) from 150 μg.m- 3 to 15 μg.m-3. It results into decreasing of corrosion rate and increasing durability of materials. On the other hand during last decade the extreme climatic effect as long-term periods with high temperature and ozone concentration may significantly degrade organic paint coatings. All these changes need to be included into service life prediction models.
