Abstract

Sexual function is an important factor which will influence the integrity of a family. The use of injection contraception is presumed to give impacts of sexual function disturbance. Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is the kind of contraception mostly used for years. This study aims to compare the sexual function of medroxyprogesterone acetate users with those who use non-hormonal contraception. Historical cohort design was used in this study to analyze 94 samples taken from systematic random sampling. Data collecting was done using Female Sexual function Index (FSFI). Samples were 47 respondents who used three month-injection contraception and 47 respondents who used non-hormonal contraception. This study was carried out from January to June 2016 in the region of Community Health Center, Emas Street, Tangerang. Statistical examinations used were Mann Whitney examination and unpaired t examination. The result of Mann Whitney statistical examination proved that there was no difference of sexual function between MPA users and non-hormonal contraception users (p=0.883), but the score of orgasm and pain during sexual intercourse was higher on non-hormonal contraception acceptors compared to MPA users (12.6-14 vs. 11.7-14), (9.5-4 vs. 8;4-13). On the contrary, score of MPA acceptors was higher on arousal dimension (12.9-16 vs. 6.2-8) and lubrication dimension (16.10-20 vs. 12.8-16). The result of unpaired t examination showed significant difference on sexual function between the age of respondents (score p=0.029) and the age of couples (score p=0.015). Further studies are expected to observe other factors which influence the sexual function of MPA injection acceptors.
