Crop Production Security for Flood in an Alluvial Watershed of Bangladesh

Crop Production Security for Flood in an Alluvial Watershed of Bangladesh

Alluvial watersheds of Bangladesh are suffering from moderate to highly intensified floods regularly. These floods have a destructive effect on crops production especially on Aman variety (monsoon rice variety) up to certain level of flood depth but also have a positive impact on following year’s Boro (dry period rice variety) production due to having plenty of sedimentation and ground water recharge by previous monsoon’s flood. So there is a growing need for better management of flood towards ensuring crop production security in alluvial watershed. Fully structural control of flood can not provide good result in a long run, as many scientist argue. It will have an negative impact on watershed water system, irrigation and soil fertility. So, therefore, the present study has proposed few possible flood management ways for ensuring crop production security in a pilot based alluvial watershed of Bangladesh.
