Dr. Farzand obtained an MBBS from the Rawalpindi Medical College in 1992, and an MPH and DrPH from University of Texas Health Science in 2011. She is certified by the National Institutes of Health Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education. She has authored numerous works, including Dr. Farzand authored “Future Pandemic Influenza Control (FPIC) Strategic Management Plan based on 2009 H1N1 Influenza Pandemic Survey: Review of Health Policy Decisions, their Practice and Implications” and “The Prevalence of Reported Alcohol Consumption and Cigarette Smoking among Pregnant Women Living in Harris County by Age, Education and Race/Ethnicity.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported more than 18,000 deaths from April 2009 to July 2010 attributable to 2009 H1N1 Influenza pandemic. There were 89,000 to 207,000 deaths mostly among younger age groups, 314,000 to 734,000 hospitalizations and economic cost of 71 to 167 billion dollars reported from pandemic modelling in 1999 by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC). Therefore, global public health agencies must implement an effective strategic plan to control future influenza pandemics.
