Diet

The sum total of all the food items that a person consumes to gain the requisite nutrients required for its survival is referred to as diet. Therefore, the state of health and well-being of a person is directly correlated with the diet consumed by him/her.

Calories

Calorie is a standardized unit of energy, per se and equals to 4.2 joules. However, in terms of nutrition and diet, 1000 calories are represented as one food calorie. It is the most widely used term for representing food energy.

Body Weight

The sum total of mass/weight of the body of an individual is a highly important factor, as it determines the amount of food (energy) required for its maintenance. Furthermore, it also plays an important role in determining the body mass index of an individual, which is one of the most important factors of monitoring growth and development.

Over Weight

It can be defined as a health condition in which the body has more amount of fat content or weight than the designated standard values indicative of physically fit status. Clinically, being overweight is the first step towards developing obesity and its associated diseases.

Weight Management

The process of keeping a watchful eye on the levels of gain or loss of body weight is referred to as weight management. Most often, the term is synonymous with the process of reducing weight in overweight or obese individuals, either by diet restrictions or implementing physical activity regimens.

Journals related to Weight Managment:

Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness, Fitness Journal, International Journal of Sports Sciences and Fitness

Waist Circumference

It is one of the most important indicators of obesity. Based on gender based standardization of waist circumference (WC), men with WC more than 40 inches and women more than 35 inches is an indicator of possible occurrence of metabolic disorders such as diabetes.

Journals related to Waist Circumference:

ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal, The Journal of Physical Fitness and Sports Medicine, The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, Aerobics and Fitness

Adiposity

The word adiposity is essentially a synonym of obesity or morbid over weight condition. The measure of adiposity is done just as same as that of obesity by measuring body mass index (BMI).

Journals related to Adiposity:

Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Proteome Research

Liposuction

Liposuction is essentially a weight loss surgery but often intended for cosmetic purposes. The surgery involves reshaping a portion of the body by removing the extra fat in the region. The surgery can be done with or without being accompanied by plastic surgery.

Journals related to Liposuction:

Journal of Health Informatics & Management,  Journal of Liver: Disease & Transplantation

Appetite Control

It is one of the most important factors in weight management. Clinical weight loss strategies are often accompanied with the administration of bioactive agents that serve to limit uncontrolled appetite in obese patients.

Journals related to Appetite Control:

Food Journals, The Bariatric Eating Food Journal, Appetite, Journal of Endocrinology,  Journal of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, Journal of Food and Nutritional Disorders

Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery or in simple terms “weight loss surgery” is a recent revelation in the field of surgery as well as weight management. In cases where an obese patient fails to lose weight due to genetic or environmental factors, due to which he/she is likely to face health complications; bariatric surgery is recommended. The idea behind this surgery is limiting the intake of food in the patient by reducing the size of the stomach with the help of gastric banding.

Journals related to Bariatric Surgery:

Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Obesity Surgery, Bariatric Surgery Journal, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, Obesity and Weight Loss Therapy

Morbid Obesity

Obesity that can be characterized as BMI more than 40 is usually referred to as morbid obesity, especially due to the fact that sooner or later it leads to the occurrence of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases that either leads to morbidity or mortality.

Journals related to Morbid Obesity:

Obesity Journal, Obesity, International Journal of Obesity, The Open Obesity Journal, Journal of Obesity

Infect Obesity

Obesity that was caused as a result of one or more microbial infections is referred to as infect obesity. It is a relatively new concept and much research regarding the various factors that lead to infect obesity is still under research.

Journals related to Infecto Obesity:

The Journal of Nutrition, Journal of Clinical Virology, American Journal of Preventive Medicine

Genetic Obesity

Among the various reasons that lead to obesity, genetic factors play a significant role. The metabolic genes that facilitate the deposition and increased accumulation of fat in the body are the major causative agents of genetic obesity.

Journals related to Genetic Obesity:

Obesity Reviews, International Journal of Obesity, PLOS Genetics

Childhood Obesity

Obesity during childhood is a major risk factor that inflicts severe immediate and long term health complications. High BMI values in children are indicative of possible occurrence of metabolic disorders such as heart diseases and diabetes in the future.

Journals related to Childhood Obesity:

Pediatric Obesity, Childhood obesity, International journal of obesity, Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism

Cholesterol Management

High cholesterol levels are the instigators of most heart attacks and strokes. Managing the levels of cholesterol via adhering to a low-fat diet plan complemented with regular exercising is necessary to avoid the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases.

Journals related to Cholesterol Managment:

Physiology and Behaviour, Nature reviews Endocrinology

Fitness and Exercise

Maintaining an optimal fitness regime by regular exercising is one of the most commonly recommended remedial measures for body weight management. Following a strict fitness and exercise regimen is indispensable to the maintenance of health and wellbeing, especially in the long run.
