Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), often referred to as Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) in some states, are the backbone of healthcare teams. In this article, we will explore the essential role of LPNs in healthcare and the profound impact they have on the wellbeing of patients. Licensed Practical Nurses are an essential part of the healthcare workforce, bridging the gap between the roles of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Registered Nurses (RNs). LPNs undergo specific training and education to provide a wide range of patient care services.

Education and training

The educational path to becoming an LPN typically includes:

• Completion of a state-approved practical nursing program, which usually takes around 12 to 18 months.

• Classroom instruction in subjects such as anatomy, pharmacology, and nursing procedures.

• Clinical experience in healthcare settings, allowing LPN students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world situations.
