Actinomycosis may be a relatively rare infection caused by saprophytic bacteria of the mouth and alimentary canal which will become pathogenic. The chronic hyperglycemia of Diabetes Mellitus induces events that promote structural changes in various tissues and are related to problems in wound healing. This infection remains largely unknown to most clinicians due to its different presentations and palatal involvement is extremely rare. This report describes the case of a 50 year old man who was diagnosed with Actinomycosis involving the surface. The main clinical, histopathology and therapeutic characteristics and diagnosis of Actinomycosis are reviewed. Till date, 4 cases of Actinomycosis involving the palatal surface are reported.

Dr. Basavaraj T Bhagawati, Professor and Head of Department of Oral medicine and Radiology. He is Alumni of prestigious KLE University Belgaum, Karnataka. He has completed BDS & MDS from KLE Dental College Belgaum in 1992 and 1996 respectively. He is core Academician with Vast teaching experience of 23 years. He is Life member Indian Academy Of Oral medicine and Radiology& India association of Forensic Odontology. He has many publications in national and international Journals. He has also contributed as co- Author for E-Books .He is Reviewer for Innovative publications Journals and Journal of International Blood Research Review. He has also served as organizing chairman for many CDE programmes.He is post graduate guide and examiner for various universities in India. He is currently doing PhD at Babu Banaras University, Lucknow. He has also served as DCI inspector for various Dental colleges.
