Abstract

The use of grafts for reconstructions in dentistry is a common practice these days. Many materials have emerged in recent years, and synthetic materials have been gaining space in this medium as a safe alternative, with relatively lower cost, when compared to other techniques and with very satisfactory results, especially the ceramics and BioAtivos glasses, reducing the surgical time and reducing the morbidity of the patient. A deep comparison between these materials is necessary, showing proven results with cone bean digital radiographs and tomographies. The objective was to present to the general practitioner and the implant center, a general overview of the traditional bone grafting materials, such as homogenous grafts, autogenous (bone bank), xenogens showing their characteristics, properties in formation, induction and conduction of bone. In comparison to synthetic grafts such as calcium beta-triphosphate, presenting clinical cases in patients treated by my team at my clinic in the city of São Paulo-Brazil, showed a simple and safe surgical technique of using these materials, as well as the pre, trans and postoperative medication protocol.
