Abstract

Dramatic advancements in technology and the applications of technologies are occurring at such a rapid pace that it is difficult for dental practitioners to manage the changes comprehensively and incorporate the technologies. There are two core technologies today which are driving all aspects of prosthetic restorative and implant dentistry. These technologies are 3D Cone Beam Imaging and Cad Cam digital impressioning technologies. Select cases will be presented to illustrate how two core dental technologies have become an integral part of dental practice and provide practical guidance to practitioners in their use in prosthetic restorative and implant dentistry from a clinically based perspective. Integral to the technologies are a sound understanding of ceramic materials such as eMax Lithium Disilicate and the use of digital impressioning and in-office fabrication techniques in creating restorations. 3D Cone Beam Imaging and digital scanning impressioning technologies are integrated clinically in the field of implant dentistry to digitally guide implant placement and to plan, produce and deliver implant restorations economically with greater levels of precision and patient comfort. The goal of utilizing and implementing digital impressioning and 3D imaging technologies is by improving patient care as well as the efficiency at bottom line of the practice.
