Abstract

Oral cancer is one of the most common non communicable diseases worldwide with an estimated increase of 275,000 new cases each year. The reasons for the high prevalence of head and neck cancers in South Asia have been investigated to some extent but, as is the case with most developing countries, a lack of research infrastructure has put constraints on studying the epidemiology of these conditions in the context of assess their detailed relationship. My presentation highlights the scenario of oral cancer in Nepal with context to south East Asian countries. This presentation enlights the recent trends in the epidemiology and survival of cancers in the developing nations, and explores potential causes and policy responses to the disproportionate and growing cancer burden in less developed countries. It shares the various constraints regarding its screening, diagnosis and multimodality management. It also shares our case series of oral cancer with management since 5 years from single institute i.e. Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences, Dhulikhel, Nepal.
