Sharad Panday (22 October 1934 ? 8 November 2004) was an Indian heart surgeon. He was on the team of surgeons who performed the first-ever heart transplant in India at the King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai. He was a specialist in bloodless heart surgery, and was an early exponent of bloodless open heart surgery in India.

Background: Mutations in Glucocerebrosidase gene (GBA1) has long been identified as a genetic risk factor for Parkinson disease (PD) in various ethnic populations such as Chinese, Taiwanese, Canadian, Caucasian, Hungarian, Ashkenazi Jewish etc. However, so far no report exists on the role of GBA1 in the PD patients in Indian population.
