For example, a forensic pharmacologist can determine the concentration of an illicit drug in a suspect's blood or urine, linking them to drug trafficking or possession charges. Their expert testimony is invaluable in establishing the connection between drugs and criminal activities, contributing to successful prosecutions [1,2].

One of the most significant contributions of forensic pharmacology to legal proceedings is in determining the cause of death. Toxicologists within this field analyze biological samples, such as blood and tissues, to detect the presence of toxic substances. This analysis is important in cases of suspected poisoning, overdose or homicide. By pinpointing the toxic agents and their concentrations, forensic pharmacologists provide evidence that can lead to murder charges or reveal accidental deaths caused by drug interactions or poisonings [3].

Forensic pharmacology is instrumental in impaired driving cases, particularly those involving alcohol or drug-related impairment. Pharmacologists can analyze blood or urine samples to determine the presence and concentration of substances like alcohol, illicit drugs or prescription medications. This evidence can establish whether a driver was under the influence at the time of an accident or arrest, aiding in Driving Under the Influence (DUI) prosecutions. Additionally, forensic pharmacologists contribute to setting legal limits and guidelines for safe levels of substances in drivers' systems, helping to enhance road safety [4].

When unexplained deaths occur, medicolegal autopsies are conducted to determine the cause and manner of death. Forensic pharmacologists work closely with forensic pathologists to analyze toxicological samples from deceased individuals. Through this collaborative effort, they can identify whether drugs or toxins played a role in the death, whether it was accidental, homicidal or due to natural causes. This information is essential for criminal investigations and may result in the prosecution of individuals responsible for causing harm through substance-related actions [5,6].

Forensic pharmacologists serve as expert witnesses in legal proceedings, where their knowledge and findings are presented in court. Their testimony is essential in helping judges and juries understand complex pharmacological and toxicological concepts. They explain the effects of substances on the human body, the significance of drug concentrations and their role in a particular case. This ensures that legal professionals make informed decisions based on accurate scientific evidence, contributing to fair and just outcomes in trials [7].

Forensic pharmacology also influences the establishment of legal standards and regulations related to substance use and abuse. The analysis and findings of forensic pharmacologists contribute to the development of drug laws, regulations for pharmaceuticals and guidelines for safe consumption levels. These standards help protect public health and safety by ensuring that drugs are used responsibly and that those who break the law are deemed responsible [8,9].

Beyond courtroom testimony, forensic pharmacologists often provide expert consultation to law enforcement agencies, attorneys and medical professionals. They offer guidance on interpreting toxicological findings, the implications of drug use and the potential effects of substances on individuals' behaviors and health. Their expertise aids in decision-making at various stages of criminal investigations, from evidence collection to case strategy development [10].

Forensic pharmacology's impact in legal proceedings cannot be overstated. This specialized field serves as an interface between science and the law, providing important information into the effects of drugs and poisons on individuals and their involvement in criminal activities.
