Abstract
Scope of Nuclear Power in Pakistan
Nuclear power in Pakistan is provided by 3 licensed-commercial nuclear power plants, KANUPP, CHANUPP-1 and CHASNUPP-2. The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) is solely responsible for operating these power plants while Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) is licenser, who devises, adopts, makes and enforces rules, regulations, orders or codes of practice for nuclear safety and radiation protection as may, in its opinion, be necessary. PRIS database show total electricity production of 98709.60 GWh including nuclear electricity production of 5271.41 GWh in 2012. According to World Energy Statistics 2011, published by IEA, Pakistan’s per capita electricity consumption is one-sixth of the World Average.
