Purdue University Northwest

Purdue University's presence in northwest Indiana began with the establishment of extension centers in Hammond (1946), LaPorte (1948), and Michigan City (1949). By 1967, students could earn baccalaureate degrees at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond and Purdue University North Central in Westville.In 2014 Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central jointly announced plans to unify their campuses into a single university to be called Purdue University Northwest. Unification was officially approved by the Higher Learning Commission on March 4, 2016.Purdue University Northwest is a comprehensive regional university with two campuses located in Northwest Indiana, near Chicago and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. With more than 15,000 students and nearly 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, Purdue Northwest is the fifth largest public university in Indiana.
