Abstract

Leaves of Labu Kuning contains chemical compounds saponins, flavonoids, polyphenols, anti-oxidants such as alphacarotene and beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin B5, iron and folic acid which has a property for curing heart disease, help lower blood sugar levels, high blood pressure, risk of diabetes, the risk of cataracts, anticancer and boost immunity. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of pumpkin leaf extract in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Escherichia coli. The research is a design experiment with posttest only control group. Pumpkin leaf extract prepared by maceration method, then concentrated using a rotary evaporator, then evaporated on water bath to produce a viscous extract, the extract then made a test solution with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. Then testing on the bacteria Escherichia coli using a paper disc soaked at each concentration was done and observed diameter clear zone produced over 1×24 hours, 24 hours and 2×3×24 hours. Then the results of the data measuring the diameter of clear zone was observed descriptively and continued with One Way ANOVA statistical test. The results showed that the leaf extract of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata D.) had an effect in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Escherichia coli.
