Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is a medical institute of India located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1983.The institute offers its own degrees, which are recognized by the Medical Council of India. SGPGIMS delivers tertiary medical care, super-specialty teaching, training and research. It offers DM, MCh, MD, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships and postdoctoral certificate courses (PDCC), and senior residency.
The Institute has more than 150 faculty members in 29 academic departments. The academic departments are engaged in teaching, training, patient care and research. All the patient care activities are computerized, and the institute was the first amongst all government hospitals in India to implement the Oracle based HIS system in 1997.SGPGIMS has a library with more than 16,000 books and subscriptions to nearly 450 scientific journals and Patient care activities are computerized.
Teaching covers basic, medical, and surgical specialties, with compulsory and optional courses covering areas relevant to all aspects of medicine. There is a strong emphasis on research and training in research methodology in postgraduate courses. The Institute is rated amongst the top medical institutions in the country, delivering state-of-art tertiary medical care, super-specialty teaching, training and research.
