Spanish National Cancer Research Center

The National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) was created in 1998 by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. Although it was founded by the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, CNIO has been integrated since the end of 2011 with the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness . The essential of the CNIO is to carry out research of excellence and to offer innovative technology in the field of cancer to the National Health System and to the National System of Science and Innovation. For this purpose, the strategic objectives of the CNIO are:

  • Develop a research that allows to obtain new and more effective methods of diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.
  • To transfer the scientific knowledge to the clinical practice, obtaining that the scientific advances repercuss as soon as possible on our sanitary system and, therefore, on the well-being of the patients.
  • Transfer the technology developed in the CNIO to innovative companies.
  • Establish a new and more effective management system in the European scientific field.
