Biography
Dr. Ramalingam Shanmugam received his Ph. D. degree in statistics from the School of Business Administration, Temple University in 1979. Since then, Dr. Shanmugam has worked in University of South Alabama, University of Colorado, Indian Statistical Institute, Mississippi State University and Texas State University. He was chosen to be a favourite professor by the students in Texas State University. He has published more than 140 research articles in leading refereed international journals. Dr. Ram Shanmugam founded/directed statistics programs/Consulting Center in Colorado, Mississippi State, Texas State Universities, helped researchers in Argonne National Laboratory, TransLabs, and Laser Team. Ram innovatively taught bioinformatics, clinical trials. Ram’s exemplary research including Shanmugam’s numbers advanced the statistics frontiers. Ram served NSF, NIH, NASA, wrote an excellent book: “Statistics for Scientists and Engineers”, serves as editor-in-chief and editorial member for journals. In addition, Dr. Shanmugam made several breakthrough research to create excellent diagnostic methodologies for borderline patients between healthy and diseased status, pioneering modelling medical intervention during data collection, creating super-efficient algorithms to compute non-central distributions, theorizing with Shanmugam’s numbers, innovatively teaching and writing statistics textbook, providing exemplary service to ASA chapters and liaisons, outstanding editorial contributions.
Research Interest
Dr. Shanmugam’s research interest includes data collection, analysis and interpretation, econometrics, operations research, data envelopment analysis, stochastic frontier analysis, simulation methods, and optimal decision-making.
