Biography
Prof. Pietro Ruggieri was born in Taranto Italy in 1958. He graduated in Medicine at University of Bologna in 1982, completed his residency and was certified Board of Orthopedics in 1996 at University of Bologna, Istituto Rizzoli 1987 and obtained his PhD in Oncology at University of Bologna in 1989. He became Researcher at University of Bologna, Rizzoli Institute in the Department of Orthopedics and in 2005 Professor of Orthopedics. He was a pupil of Prof. Mario Campanacci since 1982 to 1999 and then worked with Mario Mercuri until 2011. During his education, he was a fellow at University of Florida, Gainesville under the direction of Dr. Enneking and Dr. Springfield in 1987 and was a fellow of Dr. Frank Sim at Mayo clinic in 1991. He is the author of more than 800 Scientific Papers or National or International Journals, over 290 of these on PubMed, with an Impact factor over 533, a citation H Index of 41 and a i10 Index of 129. He has been a speaker or lecturer in more than 500 International congresses. He is a member of several Orthopedic and Oncology societies. He has been President of the ISOLS, is Board Member of the EMSOS, Co-director of the subspecialty of tumors for the SICOT and Scientific Coordinator for the EFORT. He received several awards, including awards from EMSOS, EFORT and N.C.I. He was Erwin Morscher honorary lecturer at EFORT in London in 2014. His main fields of research are musculoskeletal oncology, reconstructive surgery and prostheses in musculoskeletal oncology. Since May 2011 to November 2012 he has been Director of the Department of Orthopedic Oncology at Rizzoli. Since November 2012 he has been Head of Prosthetic reconstructive surgery in Musculoskeletal Oncology, University of Bologna Istituto Rizzoli. Since October 1st 2015 Prof. Ruggieri is Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Padova.
