The University of Messina is an Italian state university founded in 1548 by Ignatius of Loyola as the first college of the Society of Jesus.The University of Messina is among the oldest universities in Italy. The university is divided into 12 departments born from the reorganization of the previous faculties.The service for cultural activities, also in collaboration with the University and other institutions, promotes and supports all those initiatives in line with the institutional goals of the EMU and aimed at facilitating the diffusion of culture among young people. The University of Messina Studies is a public institution with autonomy inheriting the cultural tradition of the ancient General Messianic Studium and renews it in scientific research and teaching, supporting the Mediterranean and European vocation of the city and the area of Strict.
