Biography

Barry Scott Zellen is the Director of the Fast Changing Arctic Project (FCAP). The FCAP studies geostrategic change in the Arctic region, including the consequences of a polar thaw; it began in December 1991 with a grant from the Canadian Institute for International Peace and Security. In 2012, Zellen was appointed to the Board of the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) and later this year will serve as Senior Visiting Fellow at the Institute of the North in Anchorage, Alaska. Zellen is also an author and expert in the field of strategic and security studies. His published monographs include: Breaking the Ice - From Land Claims to Tribal Sovereignty in the Arctic (2008); On Thin Ice - The Inuit, the State and the Challenge of Arctic Sovereignty (2009); Arctic Doom / Arctic Boom - The Geopolitics of Climate Change in the Arctic (2009); The Realist Tradition in International Relations - Foundations of Western Order (4 volumes) (2011); State of Doom - Bernard Brodie, the Bomb, and the Birth of the Bipolar World (2011); The Art of War in an Asymmetric World - Strategy for the Post-Cold War Era (2012); and forthcoming, The Fast Changing Arctic - Rethinking Arctic Secrity for a Warmer World (2013) and State of Recovery - Technology, Innovation and the Quest for Homeland Security after 9/11 (2013).
