Amy A. Abbott, PhD, RN is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and has been teaching at Creighton in the College of Nursing since 1996. She is also a faculty member of the Center for Health Services Research and Patient Safety (CHRP) which has allowed her to work with an interprofessional team of researchers since 2007. Since her graduation in 2008 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, her research interests have focused on patient safety and health information technology.  She has been formally trained in quantitative research design but has gained qualitative and mixed methods research experience in her work with CHRP including work with surveys and focus groups. Dr. Abbott has completed research on symptom management of post-open heart surgery patients, problems during transitions in care, interprofessional patient safety education in pharmacy and nursing, electronic health record adoption by ambulatory office practices, and personal electronic health record adoption and use by patients and providers.   She has worked on federally and internally funded grants as both a principal and co-investigator, has reviewed grants for AHRQ, and has been able to publish work with this interdisciplinary team in high impact journals and has presented at local, regional and national conferences. Dr. Abbott completed the Health Disparities Research Training Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently studying health literacy and how it affects those in the digital divide.  Dr. Abbott is core nursing faculty and teaches in the IPE 410 Interprofessional Patient Safety Course. Her clinical nursing expertise in adult critical care.
