Dr. Zhi Zhong research interest focuses at the roles of free radical species and mitochondrial dysfunction in liver and kidney diseases. Using a variety of animal models, isolated perfused organs and cultured cells, we delineate the cellular, organelle, and enzymatic resources of free radical production and elucidate the interactions among free radicals formation, signaling pathway alterations and mitochondrial dysfunction that subsequently affect pathogenesis and regenerative processes in the liver and kidney.
