Biography

Dr. Ann M. Melvin came to UIS in 2011 and is an assistant professor of Human Services, Alcohol and Substance Abuse concentration. Dr. Melvin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2005 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with a specialization in Substance Abuse Counseling in 2007, and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation in 2011 from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Before joining the faculty at UIS, Dr. Melvin worked as Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Southern Illinois University. She has also worked as a mental health counselor, substance abuse counselor, and a crisis counselor. She has assisted in grant writing and grant management for two federal grants funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Dr. Melvin is credentialed as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association, Inc. Dr. Melvin is also a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Her current research interests include substance abuse counseling, predictors of substance abuse treatment completion, and co-occurring disorders.
