Biography

Dr. Ying He has over 10 years’ research experience on basic pharmacology, with specific training and expertise in neurobiology of pain. During her PhD studying, Dr. He established a broad background on epigenetic and post-translational mechanisms of pain and opioid addiction . Her novel research on opioid molecular pharmacology generated the first discovery of a specific microRNA in opioid tolerance in vivo. She also developed cellular and animal model systems to study molecular mechanisms of cancer pain. Based on these productive research works, National Biotechnology Conference twice highlighted Dr. He’s research in annual meetings. As a postdoctoral fellow at University of Illinois, Dr. He continued to expand her research into neuropharmacology and pharmacogenomics of pain. She developed an innovative conditioned place preference paradigm to characterize spontaneous pain in mice, which has been hard to study in preclinical studies due to lack of appropriate methods. Dr. He chaired a Nanosymposium (Pain: Mechanisms and Models) focusing on novel chronic pain models in the Society for Neuroscience (SFN) Annual Meeting in November 2011.
