Dr. Pinliang Dong is an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography, University of North Texas (UNT). Dr. Pinliang Dong received my B.Sc. from Peking University, China, M.Sc. from the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Ph.D. from the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Before joining UNT, Dr. Dong was a Staff Associate/GIS Specialist at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), Columbia University, and an instructor for the Geospatial Technologies Certificate Program at the School of Continuing Education, Columbia University. Dr. Dong also worked as a Senior GIS Analyst/Programmer at Titan Corporation in California. Dr. Dong teaches Intermediate GIS, Advanced GIS, Advanced GIS Programming, Introduction to Remote Sensing, and Special Problems. He advises graduate student research in GIS, remote sensing, and applications in geographic and environmental sciences. Recent graduate theses include selecting optimal residential locations using GIS, vegetation mapping using NASAs EO-1 hyperspectral image data, development of a GIS toolkit for wildlife tracking, and small-area population estimation using high resolution satellite images and LiDAR data.

Dr. Pinliang Dong's research interests include: GIS in environmental science, transportation, public health, and emergency response; Spatial analysis and spatial modeling; Remote sensing and digital image analysis; Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) for urban and forestry applications
