Biography

Prof. Wang Xifeng, a plant pathologist, received his BSc degree in Agronomy (1984) and MS degree in Plant Pathology (1987) from the Agricultural University of Hebei, China, his PhD degree in Plant Pathology (1998) from the Graduated School, CAAS, China. He is leading the CAAS innovation team ‘Epidemics and Control of Crop Virus Diseases’. He is the Head of Department of Plant Pathology, IPP-CAAS. In the first part of his career, he mostly dedicated his work to study wheat powdery mildew. Later he moved to molecular studies (cloning, sequencing of viral genomes) and interactions between virus and vector insects. Then he was responsible for the projects aiming to introduce resistance traits by genetic engineering and to detect GMOs in plants and plant-derived products. More recently, the study of interactions between virus and vector insects has become the main interest. More than 100 scientific publications on national/international journals, such as PLoS Pathogens, Phytopathology, Virology Journal, Journal of General Virology, BMC Evolutionary Biology, etc.
