Biography

1.      What makes an article top quality?

The scientific process covering all aspects of the study design, beginning with hypotheses, questions based on theory, methods to address the questions, unbiased results, and conclusions supported by the data makes an article top quality.

2. Do you think that journals determine research trends?

Yes. In my opinion journals determine research trends. It is the natural tendency of the authors to publish in most influential journals. So, it is the responsibility of the editorial board to maintain higher standards to influence researchers and drive research trends.

3. What makes a good position paper?

A general outline of the topic providing insight into the problem, a detailed description of the problem, proposals for resolution of the problem, and conclusions to restate the problem makes a good position paper.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?

Originality, novelty, relevancy, scientific quality, and importance of the work.

5. Can you give us a broad indication of the types of themes a scientific journal should cover?

A scientific journal should cover types of themes depending on the core area of interest. For example, Pharmaceutics journals can cover themes such as nanotechnology, solid state pharmaceutics, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics, novel drug delivery systems, protein and peptide delivery, aerosols and inhalation delivery systems etc. All types of articles e.g., original research articles, review articles, commentaries, short communications, and letters can be published under each theme specific to the journal.

6. What sorts of research methods and frameworks do you expect people to use, and how will they balance conceptual and applied research?

I expect people use sound scientific study design within conceptual framework, with sufficient detailed information to allow the entire study to be replicated by others. Sometimes, it is also important to extend the basic research to applied research because the goal of basic research is the application. It is essential the researchers balance the conceptual and applied research to meet the trends in their respective areas and also to be competitive in securing funding for research.

7. How would you describe the journal’s mission and editorial objectives to our readers?

By providing guidelines to the authors with clear statement of journal’s policies and standards.

8. If you could be granted dream articles, what would they be on?

They will be on breakthrough research in platform technologies in drug delivery for life-saving drugs, and for unmet clinical needs. Research in the development of drug delivery systems for rare diseases is often ignored or neglected. This approach will encourage researchers to focus more on neglected areas.

9. Are there any particular areas which you would like to see, or expect to see, collaborate?

Drug targeting to cancer, nanotechnology, and protein and peptide delivery

10. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?

Research published especially through open access system is available online immediately to researchers all over the world. By application and practical implementation of the published methods by investigators, the published research can easily reach the practitioners.

11. How can a publisher ensure the authors/readers a rigorous peer review and quality control?

Publisher must treat every author with fairness, honesty, and transparency. Editors must ensure timelyand thorough peer review process preserving confidentiality of the manuscript. Use of external editors with double blinding can enhance the quality of peer review process. The editorial decisions must be communicated to the authors in a clear and constructive manner.

12. Your editorial policy is to be eclectic and welcome perspectives from other disciplines and schools. How does this translate into the types of contributions you encourage?

By dedicating a fixed percentage of articles per issue to original contributions in newer disciplines, the scope of the journal can be expanded. This will encourage authors to publish in areas other than core focus areas of the journal.

13. What do you see as the merits of journals, as opposed to book series, as a means of scholarly communications?

Journal articles convey the most recent information, especially when the topic of research interest is constantly changing, the information on the book or book series can be outdated. Journals contain original research, and convey in-depth information on a specific topic whereas books provide broader perspective based on group of original articles. In addition, if we are researching on a narrow area of interest, there may not be a book or book series available, even if available can only provide a broad overview.

14. How do you differentiate Journal of Pharmaceutics & Drug Delivery Research with other journals in the field?

Journal of Pharmaceutics & Drug Delivery Research is hybrid open access journal with subscription options, but it is also available on the internet as open access. This makes a huge difference to institutions that cannot afford to subscribe to all the journals in the field of pharmaceutics and drug delivery research. Several other subscription based journals have only a limited number of articles published as open access. Open access allows for easier access to researchers all over the world while maintaining the quality of the articles.
