Biography

Dr. Sugasini Dhavamani have over 12years of experience in Lipid biochemistry, in vitro and in vivo animal models (rats, mice, rabbits, knock outs) Nutrition, Nanotechnology, molecular biology, inflammation and neurobiology. Her expertise includes In vitro (Endothelial cells, astrocytes, pericytes and microglial cells) and In vivo models, dietary feeding studies, gavaging, feeding nanoemulsions or microemulsions, tissue harvesting, isolation of brain regions such as hippocampus, striatum frontal cortex, Amygdala and cerebellum, isolation of retina, macrophage, isolation of brain synaptic membrane and cardiac sarcoplasmic reticulum. Lymph, cannulation, bioavailability of DHA and inflammatory mediators, stroke induced rats and mice, Neurotoxin induced Parkinson rats. She is also well trained in lipidomic analysis by HPLC, TLC,NMR Fatty acid composition by GCMS and lipidomics, LPC isomers, eicosanomics and neuroprotectins by LC/MS/MS. Her role in this project is to perform the in vivo feeding studies with various mouse models like neurodegenerative models of hepatic lipase knock out (HLKO), endothelial lipase (EL KO), LCAT KO, APOE3 and APoE4 KO, including gavage of DHA compounds, tissue harvesting, analysis of lipids, neuroprotectins, resolvins, maresins by GC/MS and LC/MS/MS, and assist in behavioral studies. Molecular markers like BDNF, NGF and other synaptic proteins and neurotransmitters using western blotting, immunohistochemistry and RTPCR.

Research Interest

Dr. Sugasini Dhavamani expertise especially on the neurobiology and bioavailability of omega-3 fatty acids, docosahexaenoic acid(DHA), ALA, curcumin and other micronutrients.
